General Info

Located inside Burge Residence Hall, 301 N Clinton St, Iowa City, IA 52242, United States, Burge Market Place is a buffet restaurant that many students and visitors naturally gravitate toward when they want a relaxed place to eat. The atmosphere feels casual and welcoming, which makes it an easy spot for a quick meal after classes or a comfortable dinner with friends. From the moment you walk in, the layout of the dining space makes it simple to browse the buffet stations and explore what’s on the menu for the evening.

One of the things that stands out about Burge Market Place is the variety you typically find at the buffet. Instead of feeling repetitive, the dining experience has a lively rhythm as you move from station to station deciding what to try next. Among the highlights, the University of Iowa Belgian Waffle is a signature item that regularly catches attention. Fresh, warm, and lightly crisp on the outside, it’s the kind of waffle that feels satisfying whether you’re grabbing it as a sweet finish to dinner or building an entire plate around it. The waffle alone has earned plenty of positive reviews from diners who appreciate how something simple can be done so well.

Dinner service here tends to be the busiest time, and it’s easy to see why. The buffet format makes it convenient for groups with different tastes, while still being comfortable for solo dining. On my visit, I noticed a mix of students eating together, others studying quietly with a plate nearby, and some simply stopping in for a relaxed evening meal. That flexibility is part of what gives the place its everyday charm.

Practical amenities also make the experience smoother. Wi-Fi is available, which means it’s common to see people checking assignments or browsing while they eat. Payment is also simple thanks to NFC mobile payments, a small but helpful detail when you want a quick and easy checkout. These services make the location feel well adapted to the rhythm of campus life.

Overall, Burge Market Place fits naturally into the dining scene around Iowa City. The combination of buffet-style variety, a comfortable dining room, and reliable favorites like the University of Iowa Belgian Waffle creates an experience that feels both casual and satisfying. Whether you’re stopping by for dinner, meeting friends, or enjoying a quiet solo meal, the restaurant delivers a straightforward and dependable place to eat within the Burge Residence Hall community.

What customers say?

“ Burge has a wide selection of foods available. If you feel like eating Salad they have it, if you like Tex-Mex they have it. How about trying new cuisine from different international regions they also have it. If you have a certain allergies to food they also have a station for that. ”

- Lea Roschnneia -

“ I got literally 4 days of breakfast all in one bag for the buffet price of 8 dollars. From 7:30 to 10 something it's 8 dollar take home breakfast for whatever you want and they have bags there to fill. ”

- devon -

“ I would give 5 stars if they had chicken noodle soup more often. ”

- Ellie Shiffer -

“ While a buffet, it provides a variety of different meals everyday. Despite the variety, there are also several key stations that are non-changing, including the salad bar, omelet station, and the burger station in which you, or another person, can make these respective foods with the ingredients you enjoy. I would highly recommend this option as the food is made well and guaranteed to love. ”

- Daniel Yang -

“ The food is decent on average, but some of their recipes changed to having oyster sauce halfway through the semester and I almost got poisoned by the unexpected and unannounced change. I'm just glad I checked the allergen information on said dishes. ”

- Lindewel Hotero -

“ Good food for a college dorm. College food has sure changed in the last 30 years!!! ”

- Daniel Priester -

“ Nice restaurant. Has reasonable variety of food, compared to the cheap price of open buffet ($12.00). The rest room needs some attention, though and the diet coke had water in it! ”

- Aser Ahmad -

“ I had a great experience at Burge, Amazing location to have lunch. You will find a lot of varieties there. They especially have a section for international foods. If you don't belong to the UI, it's also affordable at a rate of 11$. ”
